History
Minya was once an autonomous city-state known as Oryx, established under Pharaoh Menes. It later became Menat Khufu, honoring the builder of the Great Pyramid. The city has seen various rulers and alliances, including conflicts with the Hyksos around 1540 BC. Today, remnants of its ancient past are visible in the nearby Beni Hasan tombs, which reflect the city's historical significance despite the lack of monumental pyramids.
