History
Dong Hoi was once a small village that gained significance during the Trinh-Nguyen War, which lasted from 1558 to 1775. The Gianh River served as a dividing line between the northern and southern regions of Vietnam, with Dong Hoi acting as a strategic fortress for the southern Nguyễn Lords. The city has seen various conflicts and changes over the centuries, including damage during the Vietnam War. Today, remnants of its past can still be seen in the form of historical sites and architecture.
