History
Vianden's history dates back to the Gallo-Roman period, with the first mention of the town in the 7th century. The construction of Vianden Castle began in the 11th century, becoming the seat of the counts of Vianden. The town received its charter in 1308 and thrived during the Middle Ages, known for its skilled craftsmen. The castle reached its peak in the 13th century, with Renaissance additions made in the 17th century. The last leather tannery closed in the 1950s, marking the end of an era for the town's traditional industries.
