History - Baddeck

Baddeck's name likely comes from the Mi'kmaq term for 'place with an island near', referring to Kidston Island. The village has served as a service center for the surrounding area. Tourism began to flourish in the late 19th century, especially after the publication of Charles Dudley Warner's travel story in 1874. The completion of the Cabot Trail in 1932 further established Baddeck as a key destination.
