Introduction
Yukon - Charley Rivers National Preserve is a vast expanse of wilderness in Alaska, covering 130 miles of the Yukon River and the entire Charley River basin. This area is significant for its natural beauty and rich history, including the presence of the Hän people for centuries. Visitors come to explore the untouched landscapes and learn about the region's gold rush history.
The preserve features rustic cabins and historic sites, such as Slaven's Roadhouse and the Coal Creek Historic Mining District. Outdoor enthusiasts can float the Charley River during the summer months or experience the Yukon River's scenic routes. The preserve also hosts part of the Yukon Quest dogsled race each February, attracting adventure seekers.
