Introduction
Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area consists of 34 islands and peninsulas, offering a mix of outdoor activities and historical sites. Visitors come for hiking, picnicking, and exploring remnants of military forts, as well as enjoying views of the Boston skyline.
The islands are accessible by ferry, which adds to the adventure. Each island has its own character, from the historic Fort Warren on Georges Island to the sandy beaches of Spectacle Island. The area is a peaceful escape from the city, but it can get crowded during weekends in summer.
