Geschiedenis
De geschiedenis van New York is rijk en complex, beginnend met de inheemse volkeren lang voordat de Europeanen contact maakten. De Nederlanders stichtten Nieuw Amsterdam in 1624, dat later New York werd toen de Engelsen de controle overnamen in 1664. De staat speelde een cruciale rol in de Amerikaanse Revolutie en was de locatie van George Washingtons eerste inauguratie.
In de 19e en 20e eeuw werd New York een smeltkroes van culturen, aangedreven door golven van immigratie. De bouw van iconische bezienswaardigheden zoals het Vrijheidsbeeld en de Brooklyn Bridge symboliseerde de groei. Tegenwoordig is New York een wereldwijde hub voor financiën, kunst en cultuur, wat de diverse erfgoed weerspiegelt.
