Geschiedenis
De geschiedenis van New Mexico is rijk en complex, gevormd door inheemse Amerikanen, Spaanse en Mexicaanse invloeden. De regio was de thuisbasis van verschillende inheemse stammen lang voordat de Europeanen contact maakten, met belangrijke culturele bijdragen die tot vandaag voortduren.
In 1540 arriveerde de Spaanse ontdekkingsreiziger Francisco Vázquez de Coronado, wat leidde tot eeuwen van koloniale heerschappij. New Mexico werd in 1848 een Amerikaans territorium en verkreeg in 1912 de status van staat, waardoor het een van de laatste staten was die zich bij de Unie voegde.
